Sponsorship License application, renewals and Certificates of Sponsorship

To hire foreign nationals/migrants, a U.K. business must hold a Sponsor License. The purpose of this license is to verify that the business is trading and has a genuine need to sponsor a worker. The documentation for this application will vary depending on circumstances. Once issued a Sponsor License is valid for 4 years and must be renewed. For a small organisation the Home Office currently charges £536, and £1,476 for a large organisation. It takes around 8 weeks for Home Office to process the application. Once a company recives their Sponsor License, they can issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for a foreign worker which allows them to apply for a Skilled Worker Visa.

Whether a person visiting the U.K. must apply for a visa depends on if they’re a visa national. Indefinite Leave to Remain and British Citizenship

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) is a status that allows non UK Nationals Permanent Settlement in the UK.

The main difference between Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and British Citizenship, whilst they both allow an unlimited stay in the U.K., British Citizenship introduces more benefits. This includes voting rights and a British Passport. In the majority of cases, an applicant must hold ILR status for a minimum of 1 year before they could apply to become a British citizen.

You can apply for ILR once you have lived in the UK for 5 years on qualifying visas.

You may also be able to combine previous visas to gain Long Residence ILR, after having lived in the UK for 10 years. This can be a complicated process, and its best to receive professional advice from an accredited Immigration Consultant.
